Rhode Island gets $16 million for homeland security

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Rhode Island is receiving 16 million dollars in federal funds for homeland security efforts.

The money will help state and local communities better prepare for and respond to acts of terrorism and other emergencies or disasters. It'll provide equipment and go to law enforcement agencies for training and other needs.

The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and was announced by Senator Jack Reed.
