U-S soldier accused of murdering wounded Iraqi to be court martialed
BERLIN The U-S Army says a tank company commander accused of murdering a wounded Iraqi will be court martialed. A military equivalent of a grand jury investigation found enough evidence to file charges.
A fellow officer has testified the suspect told him he shot an Iraqi with a severe head wound out of compassion. The Iraqi was in a car believed to carry militiamen loyal to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr. The car led U-S forces on a chase.
The killing was caught on video by U-S surveillance, but has been kept classified.
No dates have been set for an arraignment or trial.
