Bush flying to California for thank-you visit at Pendleton
WHITE HOUSE President Bush heads to California today for a thank-you visit to a Marine base whose units have taken heavy casualties in Iraq. Troops from Camp Pendleton north of San Diego have been in the thick of the fighting in Fallujah.
Press Secretary Scott McClellan says the president wants the Pendleton community to know how grateful America is for the troops' service and sacrifice. He says that includes base families.
In the last three weeks alone, the Pentagon has confirmed seven deaths of Marines based at Pendleton.
Yesterday, at a White House Christmas reception, the president urged Americans to keep U-S troops in their thoughts and prayers over the holidays.
