PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino showed off the World Series trophy to Rhode Island fans yesterday at the Statehouse in Providence.

The Red Sox swept the St. Louis Cardinals last month to win the teamÔŅĹs first title since 1918.

About one-thousand fans dressed in Red Sox apparel came to see Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo, team executives and the trophy.  Lucchino told fans the team is grateful for their many years of loyal support.

Arroyo and Red Sox management visited Hasbro ChildrenÔŅĹs Hospital after the Statehouse ceremony.

Arroyo lived in Providence while playing for BostonÔŅĹs Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket.

Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri says the Sox world championship combined with the Pawtucket Red SoxÔŅĹs hosting of the International League All-Star game last summer made for an incredible year for baseball in Rhode Island.
