Posada would welcome Pedro to Bronx

NEW YORK (AP) -- Forget the past. Yankees catcher Jorge Posada would be happy to see Pedro Martinez in pinstripes.

Posada says Martinez, whos a free agent after helping the Red Sox win the World Series last month, is a winner who knows how to pitch. Posada says he wouldnt have a problem with him as a teammate.

Posada, a leader in the Yankee clubhouse, had a run-in with Martinez during Game 3 of last years A-L championship series. The Yankees were upset with Martinez when he threw a pitch behind Karim Garcias head at Fenway Park. Posada was one of the most vocal and visibly angry players. When a brawl broke out later in the game, Martinez tossed then-Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer to the ground.

But Posada says hed be willing to put all that behind him.

His remarks came at a charity event last night.
