Gutierrez joins Red Sox teammates in free-agent market
BOSTON (AP) -- Red Sox infielder Ricky Gutierrez is filing for free agency, joining high-profile teammates headed for the open market.
Gutierrez was obtained by Boston in July when the Red Sox had injured middle infielders and before they traded for shortstop Orlando Cabrera.
Gutierrez hit .214 in 45 games for the Mets and Red Sox.
More than a dozen members of the World Series champions havefiled for free agency, including Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe, Jason Varitek, and Cabrera.
