Postini Joins Other Leaders in Support of FTC Fight Against Spam
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Postini, Inc., the leading provider of email security and management solutions, today announced they are a signatory of a letter delivered to the Federal Trade Commission in the fight against spam. Postini is part of a prestigious group of anti-spam companies, member organizations and businesses who are promoting the use of IP level analysis in stopping spam and deceptive e-mail. The company already uses sender IP behavior analysis to fight spam for its 4,000 customers.

The letter to FTC commissioners on November 8 in advance the FTC's Email Authentication Summit this week, Postini joined dozens of other companies in communicating a commitment to protect email users from spam, applaud the FTC in its leadership around e-mail authentication, and signal worldwide collaboration to ensure the reliability and deliverability of legitimate email.

"Postini is a pioneer in email security," said Ryan Hamlin, general manager Microsoft Safety Technology and Strategy team at Microsoft. "Postini's forthcoming implementation of the Sender ID Framework, augmented by their IP-level filtering technology promises to provide customers a compelling solution. We welcome the development of all technologies that fight spam and phishing by identifying the spammers before they can send spam."

Scott Petry, Postini's founder and senior vice president of products and engineering, added, "The industry's support of sender authentication technologies underscores a critical new reality in the fight against spam. Today, content filtering alone is no longer sufficient to protect email systems. Real-time source IP behavior analysis and filtering are a crucial method of stopping spam, viruses and other email threats."

Postini's email security and management technology protects enterprise servers and desktops at the perimeter, stopping spam and viruses before they enter a company's network. The pre-emptive solution comprises a comprehensive set of security and management features, including spam and virus filtering, content and policy management, disaster recovery and industry specific content filtering. Postini currently blocks more than half of the 400 million email connections that come through its data centers based on a real-time analysis of IP addresses and their behavior.
