PROSPECTS OF BUSH DOING THIS�Aides and observers say Bush could get more involved in the Middle East peace process, while pressing such domestic issues as partial privatization of Social Security and a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage that are holdovers from his first term.

NEW SPIRIT OF COMPROMISE? -- Some see Bush remaining largely unbending in his conservatism, although in post-election comments he has spoken of his willingness to reach out to Democrats in a bipartisan spirit.
