Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The curse of the Bambino wasnt the only thing that was shattered during the Boston Red Soxs championship run.

Faithful Red Sox fan Maria Shriver broke her foot.

Californias first lady injured herself while watching the fifth playoff game between Boston and the New York Yankees. When Bostons David Ortiz smacked a 14th-inning single, an excited Shriver jumped off the sofalanding on one of her childrens cast-off shoes and breaking her foot.

Shriver is wearing a brace, and doctors said it will take about three months for the injury to heal.

Shriver and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have four children.

The Red Sox, who had been down three games, went on to win the next four and advance to the World Series, which they won Wednesday night in St. Louis.
