Campaign 2004
Republican Ads Packing a Punch
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The state Republican Party has hit the airwaves with a campaign ad responding to attacks by Democrats and labor unions.
The ad began running yesterday and features Governor Carcieri making a direct plea to voters to put more Republicans in the state Legislature. Carcieri says in the ad that 50 years of Democratic control is an obstacle and more balance is needed on Smith Hill.
The ad cost the G-O-P 30-thousand dollars. It's a counter to a 45-thousand dollar labor union T-V and radio ad campaign disparaging the governor. Carcieri is not up for re-election until 2006. He's been actively involved in campaigning for Republican hallengers for the General Assembly.
The election is Tuesday.
