Actor speaks out against stem cell measure
NEW YORK Actor Mel Gibson says he has an "ethical problem" with a California ballot measure that would spend three (b) billion dollars to fund human embryonic stem cell research. Gibson appeared on A-B-C's "Good Morning America" today and says that he shouldn't have to pay taxes to help fund the cloning of human embryos.
Gibson is Catholic and he directed "The Passion of the Christ," the controversial movie that chronicles the last hours of the life of Jesus Christ.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently broke ranks with the Republican Party to announce his support for the measure.
Gibson says he called Schwarzenegger last night to talk about the issue and that the governor told him he had to make a speech and would call him back. He says he's still waiting for that call.
