T.F. Green poised to recover passengers lost after 2001 terror attacks

WARWICK, R.I. - T.F. Green Airport looks poised to recover from the slump in passengers since the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Figures from the state Airport Corporation show about four million passengers used the Warwick airport in the first nine months of this year. That's 4.5 percent increase compared to a year ago. It also means the airport is on track to exceed passenger traffic from 2001. About 5.5 million people traveled through Green that year.

Passenger traffic grew eight percent in September alone at Green. The airport showed a decline in that month between 2002 and 2003.

Officials say Green is benefiting from the addition of low-cost airlines and increased competition among carriers.

Other airports in New England saw passenger gains.
