No reports of West Nike, EEE in latest testing by state
PROVIDENCE, R.I. The state has conducted its final tests of the season for West Nile virus in Rhode Island, and the results are negative. The nearly 50 traps also turned up no cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
State regulators have stopped setting traps because of cooler evening temperatures and a significant reduction in the mosquito population. Mosquitoes are tested because they're carriers of the diseases.
Nevertheless, state officials warn residents to take precautions, because there are still some mosquitoes left.
