Police in Boston area keep the peace as fans party
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

BOSTON Police in Boston and in Amherst, Massachusetts, have been out in force to keep the peace as tens of thousands of jubilant Red Sox fans celebrate the World Series win.

The Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals three-nothing last night to sweep the World Series in four straight games.

Boston police say 35 people were arrested and 44 injured -- including a police officer.

Fans converging on Fenway Park were met by a massive police presence. Some fans set off fireworks, threw bottles, set small fires and jumped on cars.

Police used smoke canisters to disperse some rowdier groups. Officers in riot gear and on horses cleared people from the area.

At the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, campus police made about 25 arrests after students streamed out of dorms in a raucous celebration.
