Justice Department ready to deploy election monitors, observers
WASHINGTON The Justice Department is set to deploy approximately eleven-thousand monitors and observers to make sure voters can cast their ballots without interference. That's nearly twice as many as in the last presidential election. Staffers will be sent to states with a past history of voting rights violations and to areas where there have been reports of irregularities.
The Justice Department has initiated several vote investigations already. Spokesmen are offering no details. It's believed the investigations focus on allegations of destruction of voter registration forms, attempts to pay people to vote, and efforts to register dead people -- or pets.
