Decorated Native American war veteran to offer another blessing for the Sox
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. An 83-year-old war veteran hopes the third time will be the charm for the Boston Red Sox. Chester Nez (NAY'-ihz), one of the World War Two Najavo Code Talkers, is offering a third blessing for the team. He hopes it is enough to override the famous Red Sox curse.
He did a Najavo blessing for the players, using corn pollen, at Fenway Park on April tenth. The Red Sox won seven of the next nine games.
When Boston was down three games in the American League Championship Series -- he blessed them again, and the Sox made a historic comeback.
So, tonight, Nez will step outside of his house, sprinkle some corn pollen, and ask the Great Spirit to give the Red Sox one more win.
He's a Red Sox fan even though he lives in New Mexico.
