Report states two officers untrained to fire pepper-pellet guns
BOSTON Two of the Boston police officers who fired pepper-pellet guns into a crowd of unruly Red Sox fans last week were reportedly not trained to use the weapons. A college student died after she was hit in the eye by one of the pellets.
The report in the Boston Globe doesn't say if the untrained officers fired the fatal shot.
The Boston police commissioner has put together an independent panel to examine the death.
Meanwhile the Boston Herald reports one of the officers being investigated was considered one of the police department's leading weapons experts. It says he was also involved in the decision to purchase the supposedly "non-lethal" pepper-pellet guns.
