Battleground Ohio using punch card system for presidential vote
fixes coding COLUMBUS, Oh. (AP) _ Florida may have moved away from punch card voting and the spectre of hanging, pregnant and dimpled chads, but another battleground state will still be punching away on Election Day. Punch card voting will take place in 68 of Ohio's 88 counties, including three of the four most populous -- the counties which include Cleveland, Dayton, and Cincinnati.
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit to stop the use of punch cards. The suit is pending in federal court in Akron.
Ohio had planned to use an electronic voting system, but Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell decided against that. Groups complained the electronic system produced no verifiable paper trail to ensure the integrity of the results.
