Plane Crashes in Leominster

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (AP) -- A small plane crash in Leominster has killed one person.

State Police Sergeant Scott Range tells The Associated Press that the victim is believed to be the pilot. The ultralight experimental plane crashed into the R and S Machine Shop on Monarch Street around four p-m, just a few hundred feet from the airport.

Monarch Street resident Roland Rivard lives across the street from the machinery shop and says the approximately five workers there had left for the day -- just before the crash. Rivard says one of his neighbors tried helping the pilot before fire engulfed the plane.

The F-A-A says the experimental aircraft was registered to Andrew San Clemente of Shrewsbury.
