State fire marshal expected at commission hearing
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The state fire marshal is heading to Smith Hill today to attend a hearing on the fire safety code.
Fire Marshal Irving Owens will respond to questions from lawmakers on the implementation of the state�s new fire code, which was passed in the wake of The Station nightclub fire.
The hearing before the House Oversight Commission to Study the Ramifications of the Fire Safety Code will also include appearances by members of the public.
The commission wants to learn how business owners are coping with implementing the tighter regulations.
The 1 p.m. Statehouse hearing is open to the public.
