Bullet Proof Vests Goes Bankrupt
CENTRAL LAKE, Michigan. (AP) -- A bulletproof vest maker has filed for bankruptcy protection, following lawsuits from Massachusetts and eight other states.
Michigan-based Second Chance Body Armor was accused in the lawsuits of selling defective vests to police officers. The accusations also generated federal and state investigations. Second Chance says Chapter Eleven protection will allow it to stop spending money and resources on litigation.
The company employs about 250 workers at its factory and has about 100 other sewing subcontractors in the Central Lake area. It also has facilities in Alabama, Massachusetts and overseas.
