Authorities say theyve broken major drug ring in Woonsocket
WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) -- A major drug ring in Woonsocket has been broken up.
Authorities announced theyve arrested five Woonsocket residents allegedly in the ring. They say the group supplied 75 percent of the crack cocaine in Woonsocket and generated 40-thousand dollars in sales each week.
Each man has been charged with one count of distributing crack cocaine in excess of five grams. Some face additional charges.
Police spokesman Luke Gallant says the members were using new cell-phone and text messaging technology to move the drugs. Gallant says the arrests should cause the drug supply to drop. More arrests are expected
