Man Arrested in Weekend Shooting
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- An arrest has been made in connection with a deadly weekend shooting in New Bedford, but the search continues for the killer.
Thirty-seven-year-old Miguel Mendez was gunned down early yesterday on Second Street in the city's South End. Friends told the Standard Times of New Bedford that endez was a scalloper who came to the U-S from El Salvador.
Police have charged 24-year-old Jose Rivera as an accessory after the fact, but have not yet charged anyone with the shooting.
The homicide was the sixth in the city so far this year.
