Rep. Langevin Announces Universal Health Care Plan
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) -- Congressman Jim Langevin wants to make health care accessible to all Americans.
The Rhode Island Democrat announced today that he's introducing the "American Health Benefits Program." Under Langevin's plan, the federal government would negotiate health benefits packages with insurance companies, and would contribute part of the premium for each enrollee's plan. Enrollees would pay up to 28 percent of the premiums.
The program would be funded by a payroll tax of six percent on all employers. Langevin says the plan would give all Americans the health benefits available to members of Congress and federal employees
