Rice defends Afghan election
WASHINGTON National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice says she's "certain" that Afghanistan's presidential election will be deemed fair and valid. There have been allegations of fraud from the opponents of U-S-backed interim President Hamid Karzai. Rice acknowledges what she calls "technical difficulties."
But she says even "mature democracies" have problems in voting, and she believes any complaints will be resolved.
Rice appeared on "Fox News Sunday."
Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards did not question the legitimacy of the election in an appearance on A-B-C's "This Week."
But he did say that Afghanistan is far from the flourishing democracy that President Bush has portrayed.
