Tropical Storm Matthew predicted to move inland today
NEW ORLEANS Forecasters say Tropical Storm Matthew is expected to move inland later this morning. Areas that could see remnants of the storm are from intracoastal city Louisiana east to the Alabama-Florida border.
A forecaster with the National Weather Service predicts Matthew will "weaken rather quickly" as it heads north-northeast. He says by the time it reaches Mississippi, it should be "nothing more than a rain event."
All in all, he says things "should return to normal" by tomorrow.
He warns though that heavy rains and surge flooding still pose a threat.
Tides up to four feet higher than normal have caused flooding in southeast Louisiana.
An emergency preparedness director says Matthew has left "one humongous mess."
