Afghanistan's presidential election will take awhile to tabulate
KABUL, Afghanistan Final results in the Afghan presidential election could be weeks away. An electoral spokesman says a final tally might not come until October 30th. But he does say projections as to who is leading could be seen about a week from now.
Thousands of election workers today began the laborious process of counting ballots from the country's first-ever presidential election. Voting was marred by allegations of voter fraud due to faulty ink. Ink put on the thumbs of voters to prevent repeat voting was found in some cases to rub off easily.
All 15 opponents of interim President Hamid Karzai (HAH'-mihd KAHR'-zeye) joined a boycott, but, one candidate held a press conference today saying he might accept a compromise. He said an independent U-N commission should investigate the ink issue.
