Mount St. Helens
Earthquake activity increases at Mount St. Helens MOUNT ST. HELENS, Wash. (AP) _ There's been an increase in earthquake activity at Mount St. Helens -- but not enough for scientists to raise the volcano's alert level.
Scientists say tremors had been low until Friday -- a sign that molten rock has been moving upward with little resistance. But today they say they're measuring quakes of magnitude two-point-four -- every one to two minutes.
One scientist says the levels are "equal to or higher than" Monday's eruption -- an hour-long blast that sent a thick cloud thousands of feet into the air.
After that, seismic activity decreased. On Wednesday, scientists lowered the warning from "volcano alert" to "volcano advisory" -- where it remains.
