Gulf Terrorism
Saudi minister appeals to Gulf media to steer young people from terrorism KUWAIT CITY (AP) _ A top Saudi Arabian official is looking to the media to help stop the spread of what he calls "improper ideas" that lead young people to terrorism.
Speaking before his counterparts from Persian Gulf nations, the Saudi interior minister said Arab journalists must confront Islamic militancy -- and join the fight against terrorism. But he gave few specifics.
He also says Gulf countries are committed to uprooting terrorism.
The Saudi official raised the media issue to avoid responding directly to a question about Saudi reaction to the latest bombing attacks on Israeli tourists in Egypt.
Condemning attacks against Israelis is awkward for Arab governments, whose peoples' sympathies lie firmly with the Palestinians.
