Bush heading for Florida
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) -- President Bush is eyeing Floridas 27 electoral votes todayand surveying hurricane damagein the Lake Wales area.

Bush makes the Lake Wales stop en route to Miami and the debate tomorrow night against Democrat John Kerry.

The hurricanes have all but halted campaigning in Florida, where the close 2000 election was decided in Bushs favor by 537 votes.

But the presidentwith the power of incumbency at his disposalhas visited after every storm. He has helped distribute ice and water and patted the backs of residents whose homes and possession have been damaged.

Polls show a close race in Florida. But few have confidence in the results, with telephone outages and people living away from their damaged homes.
