Bill to raise California's minimum wage headed to Schwarzenegger
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

SACRAMENTO, Calif. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is facing a major test.

A bill to raise California's minimum wage to seven-75 an hour over the next two years is headed to his desk.

Schwarzenegger pledged to reject bills that "harm the state's business climate." And business groups that are among Schwarzenegger's biggest financial supporters believe he'll veto the bill.

Supporters say the legislation is needed to curb poverty. They reject arguments that the minimum wage affects primarily young people.

But several Republicans say a one-dollar hike in the wage would drive businesses out of California, laying off the state's poorest workers.
