Entertainment: Eugene Roche, character actor who played Ajax man, dies at 75
LOS ANGELES Character actor Eugene Roche (rohsh) has died at the age of 75. Like most character actors, Roche was known more for his face than his name. He played the kitchen-cleaning "Ajax man" in T-V commercials.
He also played private investigator Luther Gillis on "Magnum P.I.," sly attorney E. Ronald Mallu on the sitcom "Soap," newspaper editor Harry Burns on "Perfect Strangers," and Archie Bunker's neighborhood nemesis Pinky Peterson on "All in the Family."
A family friend says Roche was at his home with his wife in Sherman Oaks on Monday when he suffered a mild heart attack. While hospitalized for further tests, he had another more serious heart attack and died on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife and their nine children.
A funeral service is planned for Tuesday.
