Vatican statement defines roles of men and women
BERLIN The Vatican is reportedly stressing that a woman "is not a copy of a man." A 37-page statement from the Vatican on the roles of men and women criticizes feminism for trying to ignore differences between the genders.
German and Italian newspapers are reporting that the document also calls on governments to make it easier for women to pursue a job without having to neglect their families.
The document reiterates the church's prohibition on women in the priesthood, but does say women should have an important role in the church.
The statement addresses homosexuality by saying that "God wanted a Christian marriage between a man and a woman." and not those of the same gender.
The document is expected to be released Saturday.
