The first Manchurian Candidate
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Undated-AP -- Premiering today in theatres is "The Manchurian Candidate" with Denzel Washington. If you want to see the original, you can see it on D-V-D.

Frank Sinatra starred in the original "Manchurian Candidate." It premiered in 1962.

He plays a Korean War veteran who unknowingly was brainwashed. One of his war buddies was also brainwashed, but he has been groomed for a major mission, to put a Communist in the White House.

The plot involves the planned assassination of a vice presidential candidate.

Lawrence Harvey stars as Raymond Shaw, Angela Lansbury plays his cold, calculating mother.

Frank Sinatra himself pulled the film off the market for years because of similarities to the assassination one year later of President John F. Kennedy.

Features include theatrical trailer, audio commentary by director John Frankenheimer and in-depth interviews with Frank Sinatra and John Frankenheimer.
