Apple accuses RealNetworks of `hacker tactics'
CUPERTINO, Calif. Apple Computer is accusing rival RealNetworks of having the tactics and ethics of a hacker. RealNetworks has developed software that allows songs downloaded from its online music store to play on Apple's iPod digital music players. The software circumvents Apple's internal armor that had restricted downloads to Apple's iTunes music store.
A statement from California-based Apple says the company is exploring legal action against RealNetworks.
Apple warns that updated iPod software will likely close the digital loophole created by RealNetworks.
RealNetworks counters that its new Harmony technology is fully legal and was developed independently.
