DEM to patrol Narragansett Bay to stop polluters
PROVIDENCE , R.I. (AP) -- Polluters beware. The Department of Environmental Management�s Division of Law Enforcement is going to be out on patrol this weekend hoping to stop boaters from polluting the waters of Narragansett Bay.
The DEM will be checking boaters� compliance with the state�s no discharge law. The law prohibits dumping boat sewage into Rhode Island �s waters.
Violators could face up to 500 dollars in fines and prison terms of up to one year.
