Pakistani leaders appeal to Iraqi kidnappers to free their citizens
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan Pakistan's president and prime minister are appealing to Iraqi militants to free two Pakistani citizens being held hostage. Captors are threatening to kill the driver and engineer who went missing Friday.
The Pakistani government says the laws of Islam and humanity forbid killing innocents.
A group calling itself the Islamic Army of Iraq claims the men are working for U-S forces and have sentenced them to death. They warned Pakistan not to send peacekeeping troops to Iraq.
Pakistan has said it could consider sending troops, but only under a U-N mandate and at the request of the Iraqi government.
