Man shot and killed after firing on several people
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Irvine, California-AP -- Police are trying to identify a man wearing Army fatigues who opened fire on three people in Orange County, California, on Saturday.

Authorities shot and killed the man from a helicopter, but not before he wounded a recycling center worker and two law enforcement officers and kept police engaged in a gun battle for five hours.

None of the three was seriously wounded. A sheriff's spokesman says they may never know what set the man off. Deputies on horseback scoured the rugged, rural area for clues yesterday.

A resident says she remembered seeing a well-dressed man looking in her window before the shootings. Investigators are looking for a car or a camp site where the man may have changed clothes.
