Ali's Challenge

Ali Dunn Parker of Jamestown was 15 years old when she was killed in a car crash back in June of 2001. A very active teenager, her family and friends want Ali's death to be a reminder for young teens to make good choices and to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Her mother is at the forefront of a growing program in rhode island called "Ali's Challenge."

"She was active.  She played soccer and was in track.  I think that's good for the kids to see that because it motivates them," says Marueen Dunn Parker.

This week is the kick off of the second annual "Ali's Challenge".    It's a 6-week running and fitness program offered to students from five Rhode Island middle schools.   In the spirit of the upcoming Summer Olympics, the theme this year is the "Race to Athens". Students will attempt to run or walk 6,000 miles which is the equivalent to the distance between Rhode Island and Athens, Greece.

Each school competes against each other and it all culminates in June with "Ali's Run", which helps raise money for the program.
