(Bridgeport-AP) -- Motorists who travel through theBridgeport area can expect major problems for about two weeks.
Governor Rowland says it will be up to 14 days to repair the section of Interstate 91 was heavily damaged by an exploding tanker truck last night.
Rowland says it will cost somewhere between three million and four million dollars to repair the damage caused by the accident in Bridgeport.
A tanker truck carrying 12-thousand gallons of fuel oil and another vehicle crashed between exits 25 and 26 last night. A huge fire broke out and melted part of the overpass over Howard Avenue.
The truck driver and a firefighter were treated for minor injuries.
Governor Rowland is urging travelers, especially tractor-trailer drivers, to avoid I-95 and the Bridgeport area. Alternate routes include I-84 and the Merritt Parkway.
Southbound traffic is being diverted up Route 25 to the Meritt. Trucks are being sent up Route 8 to I-84. Northbound traffic is being sent through local streets and back onto the highway after the accident site.
