Club Fire Tragedy: One Year Later
Bishop Mulvee celebrates service to remember the victims
(Cranston-AP) -- About 150 nightclub fire survivors and victims' family members gathered at Saint Ann Church in Cranston today to mark the anniversary of the deadly blaze.
The Bishop of Providence presided over the Mass.
The Most Reverend Robert Mulvee said the fire brought people of every age, background and race together in a way that he's never seen before. He said people reached out with faith in a difficult time.
Anne Gruttadauria attended the service to honor her daughter,
Pam, who died in May in the hospital. She says the Mass was appropriate and it was important the victims be remembered.
Governor Carcieri spoke to reporters after the service. He says it's difficult to try to console the families.
He was headed to the site of the fire after the Mass.
