Internet Sales Soar
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

New York-AP -- Those "Closed Thanksgiving Day" store signs apparently didn't keep people from getting an early start on holiday shopping.

Shoppers went online instead, and online retailers saw their Thanksgiving Day sales soar.

BizRate-dot-com tracks sales at e-commerce sites. It says sales increased to 197 (m) million dollars, up 30 percent from a year ago.

Typically, the online holiday season starts on the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Online sales are expected to be a bright spot for the entire holiday season. Forrester Research estimates online sales from Thanksgiving weekend to Christmas will show an increase of 42 percent over a year ago to 12-point-two (b) billion dollars.
