Local Fire Department Receives Much Needed Funds
Operating on a daily basis is about to become much easier for the Pawtucket fire department. That's because the Department of Homeland Security is giving the city a boost, in order to upgrade outdated dispatching equipment. Right now, dispatchers rely on hand-written notes, and only one radio channel to keep track of what's going on and communicate to other area departments. Pawtucket will get 270 thousand dollars for the upgrade, but the city will have to chip in about 100 grand of their own. The new equipment should be up and running within the next few months.
