Markle Task Force says U-S makes limited progress in sharing threat info
Washington-AP -- A new report says the federal government has made limited progress in how it gathers, shares and responds to information that could prevent terrorist attacks. The analysis has been prepared by the Markle Task force. Its members include former General Wesley Clark and the executive director of the federal commission studying the September Eleventh terror attacks.
The report says there have been only marginal improvements in how terrorist-related information is shared between relevant agencies.
It says that sharing is haphazard and overly dependent on "personal relations among known colleagues."
The task force suggests, instead, the creation of a decentralized information network to spread information about terror threats while safeguarding against violations of civil liberties.
