Reagan movie depicts controlling first lady, often confused former president
New York-AP -- Conservatives who blasted the T-V movie "The Reagans" after seeing bits of the script may not be quick to change their minds after it airs tonight. A copy of the show released to journalists yesterday shows the former president as often confused and controlled by his wife Nancy.
Though the movie portrays him as amiable, Ronald Reagan's faults dominate his successes.
The movie opens with a perplexed president and his wife dealing with the fallout from Iran-Contra -- in which the government traded weapons to Iran for hostages.
C-B-S dumped the movie amid a media uproar after Reagan supporters threatened a boycott. The scene that provoked the most criticism has been cut from the movie airing tonight on Showtime.
In it, Reagan says people dying of AIDS were being punished for their sins.
