No more hurricanes -- until next year, anyway
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Miami-AP -- Today is the final official day of the 2003 Atlantic hurricane season and it's ending with an above-average performance.

The six-month hurricane season produced 14 named storms, including seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes. The average season has ten named storms and six hurricanes.

This year, tropical storms and hurricanes killed 62 people, including 40 who died when Hurricane Isabel struck North Carolina and left a trail of damage across the northeast. The storms also indirectly caused five deaths and caused billions of dollars in damage.

Isabel lashed North Carolina with winds of about 100 miles-per-hour. It was the strongest hurricane to hit the United States since Floyd struck North Carolina in 1999, killing 56 people.
