China set to begin testing experimental SARS vaccine next month; WHO cautious
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Beijing-AP -- A U-N health agency warns against expecting benefit soon from China's plan to test an experimental SARS vaccine on people.

The World Health Organization says a safe and effective vaccine for the potentially fatal respiratory disease is likely to be a long way off. The group's SARS team leader in Beijing says China is taking "`one step along a very long path."

Chinese health officials are looking for volunteers, and plan to start tests within about a month. The officials hope to get an immune response from purified samples of a dead version of the virus.
