Rebels release two kidnapped foreign backpackers in Colombia
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

Valledupar, Colombia-AP -- Colombian rebels have released two kidnapped European backpackers -- but there's no word about five other foreigners still being held.

A German and a Spaniard were handed over today by the National Liberation Army to a humanitarian commission in a snowy, mountainous region.

Both captives were seen speaking on cellphones after they stepped off a helicopter.

The release came after human rights workers and U-N representatives observed a condition set by the kidnappers, by visiting poor mountain villages.

The rebels haven't said how or when they might release four Israelis and a Briton who remain captive.
