RI Association For Cardiac Children

Little Angelina is not even a year old yet, but what she has gone through has been more than most people can endure in a lifetime.

"We just pray every day that everything goes well. She's a fighter," says her mother Michelle Angelone.

Angelina, a triplet, was born with a severe heart defect and only one lung. Her sister Abigail was born healthy.  Her other sister died shortly after birth.  Her parents, Michelle and John Angelone, have had to endure months and months of cribside vigils from Boston to Providence to even have their baby girl at home and alive, but it's still not easy.

Things are made a little easier by a woman by the name of Lena lonardo.  Lena is the founder and driving force behind the Rhode Island Association For Cardiac Children.  32 years ago, her grandson John was also born with a severe heart defect and was sent to Boston for treatments. For this Rhode Island woman, it was a stressful and expensive journey.  It was a journey she didn't want to see other families have to endure.

"The only thing I care about is that I can raise money to help these children," says Lena.

"She gave us money to go to Boston, to help us pay for gas, for parking, with everything. She called us every day and asked us if we needed anything," says Michelle.

Not only does Lena help with day to day expenses, but her foundation also donates equipment to local hospitals. All in an effort to give Rhode Island cardiac patients access to the best.
