Tuesday deadline for White House documents in leak probe
Washington-AP -- President Bush's aides have been ordered to turn over documents in the C-I-A leak investigation by Tuesday. The White House counsel's office has ordered those aides to produce any written or computer documents that bear on either C-I-A operative Valerie Plame or her husband, ex-ambassador and Iraq critic Joseph Wilson. The oder also includes records of contact with any of the reporters who were told of Plame's status.
The evidence is being collected as Justice Department investigators seek the identity of the leaker -- and as Democrats continue their calls for an independent prosecutor.
Meantime, the White House staff has been cautioned that the traditional attorney-client privilege does not cover contacts with President Bush's lawyers -- meaning they should hire their own if they need counsel.
